Granta en español offers a unique way of understanding narrative forms—reportage, fiction, autobiography and memoir—as they are being practiced throughout the Spanish speaking world, including the United States. It also publishes Spanish translations of selected highlights from Granta magazine. Each issue of Granta en español, which is published three times a year under the sponsorship of Alfaguara publishing house, delves into a selected subject that reflects the spirit of the times, yet does not always, or patently, coincide with current events as they are expressed in the traditional media. Granta en español bears witness to the here and now, while offering writing that can be read and enjoyed far into the future.
Since the first list appeared in 1983, Granta's selections of the 'Best of Young American Novelists' and the 'Best of Young British Novelists' have become an important source of information about new British and American fiction. The Granta en español project launched in 2004 with a translation of Granta's 'Best of Young British Novelists 2003', and the featured authors are now being read all over the Spanish speaking world. There is no doubt that the same will happen with this translation of Granta's 'Best of Young American Novelists 2'.
Soon Granta en español will respond by offering the English speaking world our own selection of the best of young Spanish and Latin American novelists.

Las célebres antologías de jovenes novelistas estadounidenses y británicos que Granta en inglés ha publicado a lo largo de los años han resultado indispensables y a la postre preceptivas para que los lectores, los escritores y los editores de lengua española conozcan a los nuevos narradores más importantes de ambos países. El acierto histórico de las repetidas selecciones ha obedecido, para los lectores en español, al criterio que rige la publicación desde sus inicios modernos hasta ahora que la dirige Ian Jack. El número 0 de granta en español fue justamente la traducción de Best of Young British Novelists, y los efectos de su publicación ya son manifiestos: buena parte de los narradores incluidos han sido publicados por las más diversas editoriales españolas. Estamos seguros, al igual que nuestros colegas italianos y griegos, que ocurrirá lo mismo con ésta selección, a la que seguirá, por nuestra parte y próximamente, una propuesta análoga dedicada a los mejores novelistas jóvenes de Hispanoamérica y España.
